"We are always looking at ways to be more inclusive, and it dawned on us that there are people who love live comedy and stay away from it because the venues are often clubs and bars, and it's traditionally associated with alcohol or other recreational drugs. Then we said let's just do it," said Kenneth McLaurin, an events organizer for Comedy on the Commons.
The first is a one-of-a-kind Sober Valentines Day event. Hosted by Ithaca's cutest couple, SingTrece and Kenneth McLaurin it is going to be a great evening of music, comedy, life, love, laughter, and a three-course dinner.
Comedy on the Commons also includes sober comedy shows during the Ithaca Festival Comedy Fest. "We wanted to provide the community with a sober event that wasn't a meeting, and give people a safe sober space to have fun adult activities, dinner, music, and comedy," said Kenneth McLaurin, events organizer of Comedy on the Commons.
Sober events have been gaining popularity in recent years, as more people seek out alternative forms of entertainment that do not involve alcohol or drugs. Comedy on the Commons is excited to add sober comedy and music events to the Ithaca community, providing a much-needed alternative to traditional entertainment in clubs and bars.
